He was a retired millwright and a member of the Millmans Union. Alfred was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Don Greenlaw of Silverdale; daughter, Leah Smith of Lakewood; sisters, Lorraine Caulfield of Chewelah, Lucille Nilson of Port Ludlow, Evelyn Hanson of Olympia; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Chris Turner, 92, Spanaway area pioneer who gave his name to Turner Road, died this morning in a local hospital before he could fulfill his wish to attend the Western Washington Fair, where he exhibited many years. Mr. Turner lived at 105 Military Road S.
Born in Walt-le-Dale, England, he came to this area in 1889 while Washington was still a territory, and engaged in farming. From 1917 until recent years he exhibited grains, grasses, flowers and vegetables at the Puyallup fair and had planned to attend the current show.
In the early days, Mr. Turner was employed in the Snyder-Stevens Sawmill at the head of the bay, when Tacoma’s population was about 20,000. Later he worked at the Tacoma Hotel and Grand Pacific Hotel, and during the depression of 1892 became a gardener for several families, among them Nelson Bennett who built the Stampede Tunnel.
The late Mrs. Turner, who died in 1945, was the former Nettie Greenlaw, member of a pioneer family.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church.
Surviving are three sons, Ben L. and Byron C., both of Tacoma, and Raymond B., of Spanaway; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Tweeden and Mrs. Alice Prettymen, both of Tacoma, and Mrs. Mary Key of Portland; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be announced by Mountain View Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Nettie Turner, of Rt 7, Box 519-B, who died Wednesday, Dec 19, in a Tacoma hospital. Member of a pioneer Washington family, she was born near Spanaway Feb. 2, 1877, and was one of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Greenlaw. Her mother was Wilhelmina Meyer, who was born at Fort Steilacoom in 1851. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Methodist church.
Besides her husband, Chris, she leaves three sons, Raymond B., Byron C. and Ben L. of Spanaway; three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Tweeden and Mrs. Alice Prettymen of Spanaway; and Mrs. Mary Key of Portland, Ore.; six brothers, Lustrous, Amos, Leonard, Loren, Cyrus and John Greenlaw of Tacoma; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Tacoma and Mrs. Ruby Soule of Gig Harbor; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
The Rev. E. Reed, Methodist pastor, officiated at the services in the Mellinger chapel. Two favorite songs of Mrs. Turner's, "Abide With Me" and "No Night There" were sung by Mrs. Joseph Snyder and Corporal Walter Lee. Sons and sons-in-law acted as pall bearers.
