Oral family history says that John Boone Jones' mother was named Nancy. Nathan and Olive Boone had a daughter, named Nancy. She is said to have died young.
Early research indicated that Nancy had died on 22 October 1835, which would have made it possible for her to have given birth to John B. Jones.
A possible ancestral root which matches the family’s story involves Daniel Boone’s youngest son, Nathan. Nathan Boone and Olive Van Bibber were the parents of fourteen children. Nancy Boone was born 4 March 1808 (also recorded as 14 March 1808) in Missouri. A letter written by Nathan in 1836 indicates that Nancy died on 22 October 1835 after a four day sickness.
Letter Nathan Boone to Jesse Van Bibber, 19 September 1836:
“In a letter dated St. Charles County, September 19, 1836, to a Jesse VanBibber, a relative of Olive, he (Nathan Boone) wrote, "Our family begins to scatter about." His eldest daughter, Delinda, lived "high up on the Mississippi River." One daughter lived "on the Missouri," while another lived in the "neighborhood." He did not mention his other eleven children except to say that: "We lost a daughter Nancy last Fall. She died on 22 October, with a sickness of four days." Nancy was twenty- two years old when she died. Whether Boone made it home for her burial remains unclear, but he left no further record about the loss of his daughter. The only other glimpse into his family life at this time came with his comment that "Olive has become very fat and can hardly ride."”

Little information is available concerning Nancy Boone, the daughter of Nathan Boone, but it was common for a girl to marry by age 16 to 18 years of age. No information has been found concerning a marriage and/or spouse, Nancy may have been married.
After obtaining a copy of the letter from West Virginia Division of Culture & History, it was determined that the letter had been written on 19 September 1831 not 1836.
