Christina Thaden Kuper Wilson McCarty

April 14, 1872 - September 29, 1962

Christina Johannah Amelia Thaden was born on April 14, 1872 in Iowa, the daughter of Gerhardt Ludwig Thaden (August 18, 1839 - September 14, 1910), a native of Aurich, Ostfriesland, Germany and Johanna(h) Christina Amelia Wilkens (March 9, 1840 - August 17, 1924), a native of Germany. The Thadens had moved from Germany to Peoria, Illinois about 1868 then to Iowa in 1870. The family moved again about 1876 finally settling in Luverne, Minnesota for many years.

Christina and Wessel Kuper (July 1867 - 1924), a native of Germany, married on March 26, 1890 in Luverne, Minnesota. They moved to Lennox, Lincoln, South Dakota. Eventually, they moved to Tacoma, Washington and ran a dairy farm near Spanaway.

She was a great cook and always had banana bread for her great-grandson and sometimes split pea soup.

Children: Anna Marie, Hannah, Ben, George, John, Ernie, Fred and Irene.

Christina died on September 29, 1962 in Tacoma, Washington and was buried in Mountain View Memorial Park, Tacoma, Washington.

Obituary from the Tacoma News Tribune, September 30, 1962: " Mrs. Christine McCarty

Mrs. Christine J. A. (Kuper) McCarty, 90, of 307 S. 34th St., died Saturday in a local nursing home. Born in Iowa, she came to Tacoma in 1908 from South Dakota.

She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Fred Kuper of Tacoma, Ernest Kuper of Centralia, Ben L. Kuper of Spanaway, George Kuper of Steilacoom; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Morris of Tacoma; a brother, Louis Thaden of South Dakota; and 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Services will be announced by Mountain View Funeral Home."
